Ever want to make a commercial using equipment you already have?

Have you ever wanted to make a commercial or some kind of video but don’t want to buy all the fancy equipment you think it takes to make one? Ever seen that Levi’s ad with they guy walking across America wearing Levi’s jeans? It’s actually pretty easy to make these ads and you probably won’t have to spend a dime on new equipment.

This video shows how a few guys did it in 14 days with just one camera, a tripod, a protractor, a string and some simple math.

Grants first dive.

My little buddy loves the water already. Although we have had him in the pool and up at the lake already, today was his first underwater visit. Here is a video a shot of this venture.  I hope to get some photos of him in the next week or so. When I do take those photos, I will video the entire shoot and post that here too.

Mad River Mountain Swamp Stomp

We packed up the gear on Saturday and headed to Mad River Mountain for their annual Swamp Stomp.  For those of you that are not sure, the Swamp Stomp is an event where they dig a pit at the bottom of one of the slopes and fill it with water.

This years pit was 150 ft long and about 12 ft wide.  It was so cool to see these guys (and girls) come tearing down the slope and skip across the water.  A lot of them made it all the way, some of them fell short.  One thing is for sure, it was a blast.  While out there, Greg decided to test out how well his D300 is sealed to the elements.  Looks as if Nikon did a good job because his camera just had to be dried off.  It was back up and working just fine later that day.  I wish I could say the same thing for Greg.  He got a really bad sun burn.  I got some sun too, but mine just gave me a reddish face with a funny hat tan line.

Here are a few more pictured from the event.  As you can see even the ones who didn’t make it made for great photos.

Big Air Snow Day

This video features 2917 still frames of skiers and snowboarders doing their thing around the slopes of Mad River Mountain. We stitched all the shots together and put ‘em to a great tune by The Highway Beautiful -- A Grown Up Childs Song, check them out on itunes.

This video is a quick example (low resolution to save time) of how many frames are taken on a photo shoot just to get maybe 50-100 images for the client. Let me know what you think.

Mad River Mountain Big Air Event

On January 30th, as part of Winterfest Weekend, Mad River Mountain will be hosting a Big Air Event in the Capital Park at 6:00PM. Skiers and Riders alike will show off their talent to send themselves hurtling through the air in an effort to win the first place prize! Ryan Andreas Photography will be there covering the event from start to finish.

We will be focusing on the BIG AIR competition, utilizing three camera, three strobes, and two shooters. We’ve been planning this shoot for a week, tossing ideas around on how to make this shoot better than the last. Our biggest question, will the strobes work more than once.  It is going to be cold, very cold, 15 degree cold. We are asking a lot of gear to work in weather that we are not sure we want to be in. But, we want the shot, and we’ll do anything to get it.

Here is what we are planning: Ryan will be shooting a D3, Greg will be shooting a D300, and we will have a D200 setup as a remote camera. We will be sharing 3 strobes, one placed on the right of the jump, one placed on the left of the jump, and one placed with the D200.  Using Pocket Wizards, we will be able to control a strobe and/or the remote camera.

iPhone Photos

Chase Jarvis says “The Best Camera is one that is with you” and I completely agree.  In the age where digital has made taking a picture just another button, where did the art go?  I can remember not too long ago,as a photographer, you were very specific of what you took photos of.  Film and development are expensive. You wanted to make sure the shot was what you were looking for and that your camera settings were correct.  There was no screen to look at to see if you set it correctly. I have talked before about the time I spent with my grandpa developing pictures and learning the basics of photography, and never once did he go out and “just hope” he got the shot.  Yes, even with film photography there was post production work that was done and adjustments you could make to correct for highlights and lowlights but photography was photography.

Circleville Pumpkin Show

ds2_9807

Took a drive down to Circleville to see what the Pumpkin Show had to offer this year. Obviously there was plenty of good food and just about anything you could think of was made from pumpkin. I read where there is somewhere in the realm of 23,000 pumpkin pies sold during the 4 day event. The first pumpkin show was held back in 1903. It is billed as “The Greatest FREE Show on Earth”. Here are a few shots I took while down there on Saturday.

Lynd’s Fruit Farm

ds2_8845Photography is not all work.  Yesterday Shelly and I drove out to Lynd’s Fruit Farm to pick some apples and maybe take a hay ride with Gary, Kari and little Maddy. It was perfect weather for our outing.  The temperature was in the 70’s and the sun was shining.  It was so nice to get out and enjoy the weather.  Here are a few pictures I took while we were there.

Ellis Family

ds2_8758My buddy Greg is very interested in photography and asked if I would come out and show him how to conduct a family portrait session. I met up with Greg and the Ellis family at Coffman Park in Dublin. Actually, it is just down the street from my studio. We started shooting shortly after 6pm. The lighting was to our backs, so we had to be sure and watch for our shadows. *No one wants a picture with their photographers shadow in it.* I had scoped out the park earlier that day with Greg, picking out good locations for the backdrop.

Senior Photos with Kylie

Kyle had some ideas for her Senior photos. Her main goal, “I don’t want the same old pictures!!” So we headed downtown to see what we could do about that request. Here are a few of the pictures we ended up with. We’ll keep most of the locations a secret ;-) .
