Please welcome Grant Edward Andreas
Grant Edward Andreas decided he wasn’t going to follow the doctors time line and made his appearance today (2/27/10) at 6:15am. Grant weighed in at 7lbs 5oz and was 20 inches long. Mom and baby are doing fantastic. Here is a quick shot I took with my iPhone while in the nursery with him. I will be posting more pictures as soon as I get a chance and can tear myself away from this guy long enough to edit.
Shelly has been a real trooper. Within 12 hours of her surgery, she was walking around the halls of the maternity ward. Last night I pushed Grant in his crib along side Shelly as she took her walk. Our first family walk. Once the weather clears up there will be plenty more of those!!!
The second day he was with us I started playing with his hands and feet. I noticed he tended to swat at my hand as it came near him. Here is a quick video I shot of the game. Quality is not that great, but it shows just how smart of a little guy we have here.
Give me five
As requested, here are more photos of the little guy. I promise there are plenty more to come.
Ellis Family
My buddy Greg is very interested in photography and asked if I would come out and show him how to conduct a family portrait session. I met up with Greg and the Ellis family at Coffman Park in Dublin. Actually, it is just down the street from my studio. We started shooting shortly after 6pm. The lighting was to our backs, so we had to be sure and watch for our shadows. *No one wants a picture with their photographers shadow in it.* I had scoped out the park earlier that day with Greg, picking out good locations for the backdrop.
Taking pictures of Kids
Meet Kayla, I spent about 2 hours with her and her mom at a local park. When photographing kids, there is one thing to keep in mind. They never stop moving. You have to be ready for anything. Most parents are not going to know how to help you get that next shot. You need to have a “general” plan and be prepared to change it, A LOT!!! Kayla was no exception to this. She wanted to be doing anything and everything but looking at the camera. This can help in some case when you want those candid shots. However, the parent can get shots like these around the house. They are paying you to get the shot they will hang on their wall or place in a frame on their desk at work. These are the shots you have to practice for. Sometimes this mean just shoot. Call their name while you have the camera up and ready to go. Use a long lens and get away from them. Kids will usually want to know what your doing, so they will look toward you if your away from them. Better yet, if you can swing it, have their parents come with you. They will always want to know what mom and/or dad is doing. Another suggestion is to take along an assistant. Someone who knows your shot or at least as an idea of what your looking for. They can help the parents get the kid in position. This leaves you free to “be ready”. It’s also a good idea to scout out the location ahead of time. This way you can put together an idea for the shoot. I hope this gives you some new ideas. Please feel free to email me.
